Away weekend to Malvern

Flushed with the success of the summer green plus rides last year, Paula and Margaret decided to see if there was any interest in arranging a weekend away for green plus riders. And they got a big thumbs up!

Keeping to the club ethos that green plus rides should encourage longer rides at a steady speed without too many hills, the search for a destination began. The rides had to be within travelling distance of Corsham to enable riders to attend just one day if they wished and Malvern seemed to fit the brief.

The planned rides included a 50 mile and 30 mile routes that rolled through the beautiful countryside and pretty villages.

On Saturday 25th June, 16 riders ventured across the river at Upton on Severn, the only local crossing, to circumnavigate Bredon Hill. Once east of the river the quiet roads meander through some beautiful Cotswold villages.

In line with green plus riding there were two stops for refreshments! The first, the Old Post Office Beckford, is a quintessential village café with lovely garden where we could all sit together. Some riders waxed lyrical about their cake for a good 24 hours! The second, a National Trust café at RAF Defford, provided a wide range of choice.

On Saturday evening 16 hungry cyclists arrived at the Swan Inn pub for dinner and were not disappointed by the good food and friendly service.

Day 2 kept the riders within a stone’s throw of the Malvern Hills as the group meandered through quiet country lanes. Three groups set off and arrived at Clive’s Fruit Farm for lunch. Another good café for cyclists. Another enjoyable route.

The weather was kind, at least it didn’t rain even if it was quite windy at times! We had good fun whilst the group flew the flag for CCC! Thanks to all who joined and supported our first CCC green plus adventure.
