Club News – July 2022

In this update we have information on the forthcoming events: The Wiltshire Cycleway, Flat 200k,The Isle of Wight trip, and trip to the Velodrome. We’d also like to share reflections on a couple of recent club events, C2C in a day and the away weekend to Malvern.

Flat 200km Sunday 21st August

For those interested in a longer ride at a steady Green+/Orange pace we have the ‘Flat 200km’ on Sunday 21st August. We are repeating (more or less) the successful ride from last year. It’s a 125mile route, past Cirencester, across to Ducklington, and back along the Thames valley via Lechlade and the water park, with only 1000m of ascent. It’s a 7am start from Springfield Campus, with plans for three refuelling stops at Jacks Cirencester (around 9.30am), The Red Lion at Northmoor for lunch (around 1pm) and The Lodge Cafe on the spine road (around 4.30pm). Hope you can join us.

The Wiltshire Cycleway Sunday 14 August

For those interested in a long day ride, we have the Wiltshire Cycleway planned for Sunday 14thAugust. This is 249 km with 2912m of climbing so is most definitely not for the faint hearted! Start time is 7am from Springfield. Café stops will be decided by the group.

Isle of Wight – Sunday 4th September

Riders should aim to be on the 9am ferry from Lymington to Yarmouth, so a 6.30am departure from Corsham is recommended. This will allow for traffic and unloading bikes from cars. Please make your own arrangements for car sharing and bike carrying.

Details about ferry costs, return times and check-in, including reduced prices for group bookings can be found here. Andy Bennetts has agreed to co-ordinate a group booking if we have enough takers. If you intend going, please let Andy know.

We have three suggested routes to enable riders to select a ride which best suits them:

Velodrome Trip

We are running another trip to Newport Velodrome, 13th November 2022. Detailed arrangementswill follow later in the year.
