We will be riding a number of Organised Rides and Sportives during the year. Of course all members will be doing a lot more besides, but these are a few that, as a club, we are going to focus on.
Sunday 16th September 2018 – British Cycling led coaching session – Odd down, Bath
On the 16th September at the Odd Down Cycle Track in Bath we have a coaching session being delivered by Martin Priestley. Martin is a level 2 British Cycling coach.
The track at Odd Down is a traffic free environment and we have the track all to ourselves for 2 hours starting at 14:00.
The session will cover:
- Individual riding skills: Cornering, braking, gear selection, slow speed riding. Sounds quite basic but is good to revisit and discuss skills transfer to the road i.e. when was the last time you or any other rider practised a ‘full on’ emergency stop without locking up the rear or losing control?
- Group riding: Safe group riding in pairs i.e. chain gang and through and off. How a chain gang works & what makes it go wrong and makes it unsafe, signals and calls. Through and off i.e. continuous rotation of riders which is useful into wind.
- Advanced Group Riding: Introducing contact between riders, moving though a gap in a group and basically getting used to a congested space and not panicking.
The session is £10 per cyclist and is to cover the cost of hiring the track.
**UPDATE** : This session is sold out. Please let us know if you are interested and we can run this session again.
