Safety Matters
What Three Words
Following a recent incident on a club ride where we had to call for the emergency services, we would like to pass on the following advice. Please have the What Three Words app on your phone which the Ambulance Service find valuable especially for locations on remote country lanes.
ID wristbands
Similarly, while many people have emergency contact details on their phone, this is not always clear to those at the scene of an incident or where the phone may have been damaged during the incident. It is very helpful to carry physical ID and emergency contact details, for example in the form of a card in your wallet/saddle bag or a wrist band such as those provided by Road ID. There are other suppliers – just google road ID.
Laminated safety protocols
Many of you on recent club rides will have received a small laminated card which sets out the club safety protocols and riding etiquette. Please keep these or have them on your phone – you never know when you’ll need them!!
Wearing Club Kit
Big thanks to everyone for responding to the plea to wear club kit on club rides. The weather from now on might not be so conducive to short sleeved jerseys but we do have gilets available!
Mudguards
Autumn has arrived and with it the delights of riding in the rain and on wet roads. It is therefore time to fit mudguards to your bike. Most mudguards are good at protecting the rider but most are not great at stopping following riders from being sprayed. This is because the rear mudguard invariably is not long enough. Please shop around for those extra long mudguards that will fit your bike. We’ll look to have a stock of flaps that can be attached to the bottom of your mudguards in the next few weeks if you need help. Watch this space!
