Bike Access Scheme

What’s it all about?

One of the key goals of our club is to help make road cycling more accessible to those wanting to give it a try. Being part of a recognised club and benefiting from guided routes, cycling in groups, learning and socialising together is great, however we recognise that investing in the bike and kit before trying the sport can be a barrier to some.

The Bike Access Scheme was originally set up in March 2018, thanks to the receipt of a grant from the Corsham Area Board of Wiltshire Council together with the generosity of Bicycle Chain in Weston.

The Club were gifted an additional bike from one of our members in August 2019 and in December 2022 a further Community Awards Grant from Corsham Town Council enabled the Club to add a 4th bike to our fleet. These four bikes are available for you to try cycling and see how well you like and enjoy it.

Equipment

The four bikes are as follows:

Specialized Allez – Large

The Size Guide below suggests the best fit bike for your height. Please note that this is a guide – we will be able to advise you when you collect the bike which is most suited for you.

Each bike comes ready to ride with strap-in pedals, a pump, a puncture repair kit, lights, a lock and even helmet if required. All you need to bring are comfortable clothes and a water bottle! We can swap pedals for clipless “SPD” type if you prefer, or remove toe clip straps, whichever you prefer. The bikes are cleaned and go through a 23-point service prior to be loaned.

Loan Period

Each bike will be available for up to one month and remain with the rider for all that time to try as much as they like – hopefully coming along to our steadier Sunday morning club rides.

1.2 Bikes and equipment can only be borrowed from Corsham Cycling Club (CCC), on completion of a Loan Agreement Form. CCC reserves the right to retain £10 of the deposit as a contribution to ongoing maintenance, wear and tear etc. We reserve the right not to accept or to fulfil a booking.

1.3 All bookings are subject to availability and are for the sole use of the person making the booking.

1.4 The loan period commences on the 1st day of the month or the date the equipment is collected – whichever is latest and continues until the cycle and equipment is returned at month end to CCC.

2. CYCLISTS TERMS AND CONDITIONS

2.1 You are responsible for ensuring that you are physically fit enough to undertake cycling any distance or compete in events using CCC bike and equipment you have booked. CCC does not accept liability for death, personal injury, loss or damage to personal effects to any participant, nor can CCC accept any responsibility for delays or changes to your period of loan due to weather, strikes, war, terrorism or other causes.

2.2 You accept that cycling on a public highway and competition on such carries its own risks and you have made your booking on the basis that you undertake the loan at your own risk. You understand and accept that CCC advises the wearing of cycle helmets at all times when riding.

2.3 You will ride your bike responsibly at all times. You will not hold CCC responsible for any loss, damage or injury including death to persons or property with regard to the use of the bike and equipment loaned. You accept responsibility to indemnify CCC against any claim, interest, demand or expense in respect of such injury or damage.

2.4 You are responsible for all cycles and equipment loaned and it your responsibility to keep these items safe from damage, loss or theft, use it in a proper manner and not subject it to any misuse or unfair wear and tear.

2.5 Any damage caused due to crash or neglect is the cyclists responsibility and will be charged for.

2.6 You will notify CCC immediately of any loss, damage or theft to the loaned cycle or equipment however caused. You will be responsible for paying CCC the reasonable costs of repair or replacement for any such loss, damage or theft.

3. PAYMENT TERMS

3.1 A deposit of £75 needs to be paid to CCC between the date the loan is agreed and the start date of the month you have the bike.

3.2. Where this deposit is taken, it will be returned less £10 at the end of the loan period provided that;

·        Any cycles and/or equipment used are returned in an undamaged condition to CCC

·        Any cycles and/ or equipment used are returned within the arranged loan period at an arranged time and place to CCC

3.3 If the terms set out in 3.2 (above) are not complied with, CCC reserve the right to charge reasonable charges until such time when cycles and/ or equipment concerned have been returned to CCC. In the case of cycles and/or equipment left or returned damaged, you are responsible for any costs incurred and sustained in replacing or repairing (whichever the cheaper) the items concerned to a condition equivalent to that prior to the loan.

3.4 In all cases normal wear and tear as defined by the products manufacturer or supplier is accepted and allowed and is included in the retained £10
